Induction Cooking - How to make the switch from gas to induction.

There has been a lot of talk in the appliance world surrounding the health risks that have been associated with gas ranges and cooktops. It seems the majority of our replacement business has been helping customers switch from gas powered appliances to induction.

Induction cooking is a direct heat transfer through an electromagnetic field. (People with pacemakers should not operate and induction cooker). The direct heat is the reason it it preferred over electric radiant heat, which is indirect heat. Induction is much quicker-even quicker than gas.

While we don't foresee that gas is going to be completely banned in the near future, we are seeing trends with new construction that gas stoves are being swapped for more efficient induction stoves.

Here is what we recommend you do before making the switch from gas to induction.

1. Do your research. Induction ranges are expensive, before undertaking a project of this size make sure you can find something within your budget. Frigidaire has the least expensive induction range at $2,299 and they only go up from there. Additionally, check your pots and pans! Since induction involves the heat transfer through magnetic currents, your pots and pans do have to be magnetic. Do a simple at home check by sticking a fridge magnet to the bottom of your pot or pan. If it does not stick - it is not compatible; then be sure to include new cookware in your budget!

2. Consult an electrician before buying. You may be eager to buy, but if you currently have a gas stove this should be the first step you take before coming into our store. There are a lot of older homes in the Berkshires that may not be able to handle the increased electrical load required to upgrade to a 240v 50amp dedicated line for the range.

3. Check for energy rebates. Mass Save offers specific rebates for induction cooking and there may be national rebates available as well. Check online and make sure you are taking the right steps to be eligible to claim your rebate. Check out the MassSave rebate below:

4. Shop at Henry's. Now that you have determined that induction is the move for you, stop into the store and chat with one of our trained sales specialists to find the right range for you!

How to Help Your Fridge Beat the Heat

How to Care for Your Refrigerator in the Heat (And Keep It Running Smoothly All Summer) Summer’s here—and while we’re all doing what we can to stay cool, don’t forget that your refrigerator is working overtime too. With higher temperatures and more frequent opening and closing (hello, popsicles!), it’s important to give your fridge a little extra TLC. At Henry’s Electric, we’ve been helping Berkshire County households stay cool and comfortable since 1946. Here are our top tips to make sure your refrigerator keeps its cool all season long: 1. Keep It Full (But Not Packed Tight) Your fridge actually runs more efficiently when it’s moderately full—items help maintain the cool temperature. But if it’s overloaded, air can’t circulate properly, which forces the motor to work harder. If you're running low on food, even just placing a few pitchers of water inside can help stabilize internal temps. 2. Give It Some Breathing Room Make sure there’s at least a few inches of space betwe...
